Works of Mercy – Communal

Today, we have the final tip, or element of the means of grace:

Communal Practices – seeking justice, ending oppression and discrimination (for instance Wesley challenged Methodists to end slavery), and addressing the needs of the poor

  1. Advocacy –
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
    – Luke 4:18-19

This was Jesus’ mission statement as he read from the scroll Isaiah in the synagogue in Nazareth. As his followers, we carry on with his mission. There are still so many issues in the world that we can choose from to get involved with.
