Matthew 6:1-4 Give to the Needy
Giving to the needy sums up the general nature of the Works of Mercy.
Did you notice that with prayer, fasting and giving Jesus did not say “if” but “when”? When you do these things, don’t do them for the purpose of drawing attention to yourself. It is assumed that you will do them, as a follower of Christ, they are expected behaviors.
When we expect to be recognized for these actions by others, we are not focused on God. Seeking God requires humility, seeking praise and recognition from people is anything but.
