Matthew 13:18-23

Matthew 13:18-23, Parable of the Sower Explained

The Parable itself. The Gospel doesn’t always take root the first time even when we’re being very clear. Sometimes, most of the time, we just aren’t ready.

I think as leaders and teachers and disciples who try to share God’s story with others, we should take this parable as a reminder that it’s not all up to us. Yes, we’re supposed to do it, but when someone rejects it, it probably wasn’t because we tell it right or because we did anything wrong in presenting; the hearer just wasn’t ready.

But… someday that seed you tossed might germinate, or that plant that seemed to wither and die might find new life. It’s not up to us to all the work, just our part based on our gifts.

Looking at your life, can you look back and see when you might have been different soils over the years? Remember that when you want to judge others.
